The Superintendent and Executive Director Student Advisory Councils focus on middle school student leadership.  This is the second year that teams of students from every middle school participated in monthly meetings designed to strengthen student voice and leadership in their school.  Another goal is to encourage relationships and connections across middle schools and students in the district regarding empathy.  The theme of “Empathy Matters” is the focus and students are supported as they take action on their school campuses.  Executive Directors meet with their individual feeder middle schools once a month.

Based on Public Law 306 (October 2016), third grade students who are more than a year below grade level on the state ELA assessment are under consideration for retention in third grade. Dearborn Public Schools staff in elementary schools have been systematically planning to ensure that teachers have the training to teach reading effectively and that students receive small group instruction based on their needs. The current year second graders are the first group to potentially be impacted by the legislation.

You are invited to join the district task force to strengthen the planning process and to ensure that the community is informed and engaged in the success of every student.  The first meeting will be January 10, 2019 from 4-5:30pm at the ASC building (Administrative Service Center, 18700 Audette, Dearborn, 48124).

Clifford arrived at the Book Fair at DuVall. Students were invited to come in their pajamas to read and select books. A great event hosted by the hard working PTA.

Edsel Ford students presented a version of the historic game Clue as their fall production. Directed by Robert Doyle, the cast of characters did a “theatre in the round.”  All students did an outstanding job with staying in character and knowing their lines. Nathan Wall as butler Wadsworth was especially compelling.

Miller Elementary Principal Awada and parents, students, teachers, Beaumont and Michigan State staff discuss the concerns about safety in the Miller neighborhood and safe travel to school. Students had excellent input about what will help make walking to school a safe journey.

Students in the ASD program at OL Smith created a Thanksgiving feast for their families. Guided by a team of phenomenal teachers, students invited their families and shared a video recording their thanks.
